LOCAL BUSINESS BOOST PROGRAM NARRATIVE CASE STUDY

Mrs. Mitchell's Gifts
362 Main Street, Hyannis

Lynn Mitchell has been using the same form of bookkeeping and back-end systems since she opened her shops. There is a huge desire to modernize some of these systems, so she can hand over some of the responsibilities to her staff.

Additionally, One of Lynn’s greatest challenges is keeping the brick-and-mortar store looking fresh and relevant for customers, especially with the increase of competing large corporations and online businesses. The front of the business has a few cosmetic fixes to make. The rear entry of the business, which is also a gateway to Main Street, needs repair, painting, and a bit of curb appeal.

Working with the team at Mrs. Mitchell's was very rewarding. MarchandCFO was able to help a true multi-generational family run business thrive as it beefed up and upgraded its business foundation for future generations. Family run businesses are the backbone to Cape Cod's economy.

IDENTIFIED CHALLENGES AND PRIORTIES:

  1. Identify a local back end and bookkeeping expert to update the business' back end systems and train Lynn and employees on the program and bookkeeping services.

  2. Recommend local construction company who could make some of the cosmetic changes on the Mrs. Mitchell’s building.

COMPLETED PRIORITIES:

  1. Connected with Marchand CFO who has overhauled and updated most of the back end systems for the business.
  2. Facade improvements were completed under the downtown Hyannis Facade Improvement Program.

The Local Business Boost Program started in 2022 and is currently a partnership between Love Live Local and the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District. Additional funding is being sought to take the program to other local businesses across Cape Cod.
