During the 2023 Holiday Season we initiated the inaugural Shift Local Pledge campaign, urging Cape Codders to shift a minimum of 10% of their holiday spending towards local businesses.
The response was impressive, with 166 individuals committing to the pledge. Together, these participants patronized 309 distinct locally owned establishments, collectively generating over $175,000 in revenue. Notably, participants surpassed the minimum pledge requirement, directing 62% of their holiday budgets towards local businesses!
The economic impact of patronizing local businesses extends beyond mere transactions, as it bolsters the Cape Cod community in various ways. Unlike spending at national corporations, where a significant portion of revenue leaves the area, "choosing local" ensures that funds circulate within the local economy. These contributions manifest through owner profits, employee wages, procurement of local goods and services, payment of local taxes, and support for Cape Cod nonprofits.
Shopping local isn't just good for the wallet; it's good for the soul too and offers intangible benefits, including the discovery of unique gift options, fostering community connections, and experiencing personalized service from local owners and staff.
