Food Port was established in 2013 to serve the local Eastern European community residing in Hyannis and across Cape Cod. It is the only store of this kind on the Cape and is run by husband-and-wife team Fredy and Maryna Chavez.

LOCAL BUSINESS BOOST PROGRAM NARRATIVE CASE STUDY

Some of the fixtures at Food Port were aging, and the system for food storage inefficient with multiple freezers in various locations. They wanted to use the grant to invest in a larger freezer in order to save on space, consolidate their product into one area and save on high utility bills. Additionally, they wanted to find other ways to reduce the cost of their utilities and be more energy efficient.

IDENTIFIED CHALLENGES AND PRIORTIES:

  1. Set up an energy audit with Cape Light Compact to identify potential efficiencies and incentives that are available for equipment replacement.

  2. Invest in new display freezer.

  3. Develop a plan to replace light fixtures.

COMPLETED PRIORITIES:

  1. The energy audit with Cape Light Compact is complete.
  2. New, energy and space efficient freezer purchased and installed.


The Local Business Boost Program started in 2022 and is currently a partnership between Love Live Local and the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District. Additional funding is being sought to take the program to other local businesses across Cape Cod.
