When the entire mission of a business is to be inclusive and to support community members who otherwise wouldn’t have representation, people take notice. That is why Ashley Irene Boutique in Mashpee Commons has been nominated for our next edition of Shop Local Stories.
Ashley moved to the Cape just over three years ago and quickly realized that women just like herself needed a place where they could shop, express themselves, and feel beautiful. “After years of struggling to find clothing that fit my plus size… I wanted to create a space for women of all body shapes and sizes to shop”. This size-inclusive haven specializes in personal shopping appointments to help folks find the right fit and style, and even has its own app.
This welcoming space, buzzing with positivity (and pink neon), embodies inclusion in an otherwise barren landscape of plus size fashion on Cape Cod. In addition to representing the curvy population here, she has also become a member of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce so that she can take her advocacy to the next level, supporting other small local businesses. She has already begun to do so with pop-ups for other businesses at her shop.
One thing is clear, this clothing store has a lot of heart, and it was designed that way. “At Ashley Irene Boutique, beauty is within and our mission will always be to build a brand based on trust, love, acceptance and support” - Ashley Irene Dufresne
Every month, along with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod and Cape Cod Broadcasting, we share stories from across Cape Cod about how our local businesses do more for this community than simply provide goods and services and why shopping with them is more than just a single transaction.
Have a similar shop local story? Or want to share how a local business you know is giving back to the community, working with other local businesses or providing employment opportunities in a unique and interesting way? Nominate them here!
