Small Business Advocacy Announcing the Shift Local Pledge

This year Love Live Local is urging people to prioritize local businesses for holiday gift giving, encouraging Cape Codders to formally commit to allocating at least 10% of their gift budget to locally owned establishments. The initiative aims to support the community and promote local economic growth during the festive season.

The holiday shopping season is filled with opportunities to give to loved ones and friends, or alternatively, as acts of charity. Local business advocacy organization, Love Live Local always encourages people to think local first for all of their gift giving needs, but this year the organization is taking their usual ask a bit further and inviting Cape Codders to formally pledge to shift at least 10% of their holiday gift giving budget to locally owned businesses.

The organization is sharing the Shift Local campaign as an opportunity for Cape Codders to declare that they are invested in their own backyard and are committed to building a more vibrant, resilient community. “It's a small change in how we spend our money,” says Love Live Local Executive Director, Amanda Converse, “but it has the potential to create a monumental impact. Our research shows that local businesses reinvest up to 4x the amount of money into the local economy as their corporate counterparts and shifting 10% of just retail spending from big box stores and ecommerce giants to locally owned shops would generate $112 million more for the local economy, annually.”

Local businesses are the heart and soul of any community. They provide unique products and services, bring character to neighborhoods, and are owned and operated by people who live in and care about the area, beyond a single transaction. The 10% Shift campaign emphasizes the value of these businesses and the role they play in enriching the Cape Cod experience.

The concept of the Shift Local Pledge is simple: people sign onto the pledge on here, they receive an email from Love Live Local with tips and information about where and how to shop local, they track their spending and save their receipts to then report their total expenditures to Love Live Local at the end of the year.

Once their totals are logged, they are entered to win prizes from participating local businesses like 1856 Country Store in Centerville, Adorn in Orleans, The Chocolate Rose Cafe in Mashpee, Designs by S&R in Orleans, Friends Marketplace in Orleans, Haberdash Cape Cod in Harwich Port, If the Shoe Fits in Chatham, Pocketful of Posies in Osterville, Scenic Roots in Sandwich, Snowy Owl Coffee in Brewster, Up Front Clothing & Gifts in Wellfleet, and Wish Gift Co in Sandwich.

Thank you to The Rotary Club of Yarmouth for your support of this initiative!
