We can’t wait to hang out at the SummerFair on the Eastham Windmill Green on July 20 and 21! Hosted by Wellfleet Shellfish Promotion and Tasting (Wellfleet SPAT), the event which runs from 10am-5pm is free and open to the public, and will feature the work of local and regional artists and artisans, as well as yours truly!
In addition to bringing to the Cape great events like the SummerFair, and the hugely popular Wellfleet OysterFest in October, Wellfleet SPAT is devoted to sustaining shellfishing and aquaculture industries on Cape Cod through education and fundraising. The money raised by the organization goes toward community grant awards and other initiatives that support the very prevalent and economically important local trade. And as they say, even their name is a tribute to the shellfishing culture – SPAT is also the name for a newly attached baby oyster.
Speaking of oysters…it’s no wonder they are one of the most popular tasty treats here on Cape Cod; we’ve got growers from Bourne – such as Monk’s Cove – to Barnstable – like Barnstable Seafarms and beyond. Each area farmed offers its own unique flavor, and some of our favorite spots to belly up to the oyster bar are the Lobster Trap in Bourne, Naked Oyster in Hyannis, Sesuit Harbor Café in Dennis, Mac’s in Wellfleet or The Squealing Pig in Provincetown…slurp!
