Because Cape Cod is such tightknit community, walking into most bars can feel like an iconic “Cheers” moment: everybody knows your name, and the bartenders and waitstaff take good care of you. But have you ever stopped to think about who takes care of them if something happens and they are not able to work? They are paid hourly, and many do not have the benefits to cover costs associated with health care and lost wages.
This is where the comes in. Named after a Pufferbellies manager who was facing cancer and could not afford the high costs of care, the Foundation has been raising money for 20 years in order to help out a waitress who has a broken ankle or a bartender who needs surgery.
Their premiere fundraiser this year is the Best of Cape Cod Bartenders Ball, which takes place October 9 at 7pm at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa. At $75 per ticket guests will be treated to a red carpet, casino photo booth, hors d’ouevres, a psychic, DJs and the 10-piece band Hip Pocket Orchestra. And, they will announce the winners of the Westfall Foundation Best of Cape Cod poll!
