You may never get the chance to ride in the Tour de France, but by living on Cape Cod you now have the opportunity to participate in the Tour de Barnstable, a unique 35-mile ride through all seven villages of Barnstable – Hyannis, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Marstons Mills, Cotuit, Osterville, and Centerville. The ride is set for Sunday, May 17, and starts and ends at Aselton Park in Hyannis.
This ride is modeled after the traditional Gran Fondos, a long-distance road cycling event in which a large number of cyclists ride a marked route, that have been part of Italian cycling culture for more than a century. All ages are invited to attend, and part of the route will follow the new South Coast Bicycle Route, a signed, on-road, bicycle route highlighting the villages of Barnstable on comfortable, quiet secondary roadways.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Barnstable Land Trust and their mission to preserve open space and the natural resources in Barnstable.
