Are you or your children curious about the wildlife that lives in one of the hundreds of ponds on the Cape? The Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary based in Barnstable will present their “Snorkeling with Snappers: Wild Wet Wacky Wildlife Experience” at their Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary in East Falmouth on Saturday, August from 10-11:30am.

Long Pasture Director Ian Ives will join Herpetologist Joe Martinez and The Turtle Sisters author Susan Baur to explore Grassy Pond and observe snapping turtles, painted turtles, musk turtles and bullfrogs in their natural habitat.
After the formal program, head for a hike around Grassy Pond for more wildlife exploration. Hikers will enjoy a variety of vegetation from forest to meadow to wetland wildflowers, as well as holly trees.

Rather go bowling? Drive back to Mashpee Commons and hit The Lanes Bowl & Bistro for a round of ten pin. After working up an appetite, munch on hot pretzel sticks, baked chicken wings or sesame panko asparagus at the restaurant inside the bowling alley, or pop around the corner to the Uncommon Cafe where their easy kids’ menu has a hot dog, PB & J, tuna or a grilled cheese.

More entertainment can be found in the Commons at Cape Kaleidoscopes, where the place is stocked with kaleidoscope toys, kits, and coloring books. Or walk in to Color Me Mine to let your kids get creative while painting ceramics. Then treat yourself and your kids to a sweet treat atCupcake Charlie’s. Their bakery offers fifteen different gourmet cupcakes daily – go ahead, follow their motto: “Life is short…eat a cupcake!”
