Pitch Pine Workshop

Reproduction potter by day, creator of magical clay creatures and dreamy vessels by night/weekend, Tara-Sinéad Betterton is inspired by nature, art nouveau, and abstraction. Founder of Buzzards Bay’s Pitch Pine Workshop, Tara-Sinéad named her historic home studio for the native tree seen throughout our area. Also known as the “fire pine,” some seed pods of this tree require heat to open. In the same way, the kiln’s heat transforms Tara-Sinéad’s clay creations into functional pieces of art.

You’ll find all sorts of motifs in Pitch Pine’s work, from mermaids and moon phases to owls, foxes, and bears. Creamy colors and vibrant textures mark each piece. Mugs evoke mountain landscapes while cups feature whimsical flowers. Pendants and earring make gentle but striking statements. We love that she makes vessels for use by other artisans, too – including yarn bowls and soldering trays.

Look for Tara-Sinéad’s beautiful ceramic art at local shops and festivals soon – in the meantime, you can order via Etsy as well as follow Pitch Pine Workshop on Facebook and Instagram!
