The Cape’s local music scene is diverse and thriving. We have been thrilled to highlight some of the incredible talent through ‘LoveLISTENLocal,’ highlighting musicians at our LoveLocal Fests and the Singer Spotlight Series at the Hyannis Harbor Artist Shanties as well as promoting and supporting live music throughout the year. Many of our ‘LoveLISTENLocal’ partners are original singer/songwriters who love playing out and collaborating with like-minded musicians on the local scene. One of the best incubators for this collaborative vibe is the series of open mic nights to be found year-round.
Kathleen Healy, an LLL standard, has been hosting a phenomenal open mic night at Harvest Gallery Wine Bar since spring 2012. Every Wednesday night a wide variety of performers of all levels fill the cozy room, which features a rotating series of local artwork and warm acoustics. This night has led to many wonderful artistic collaborations – and an impromptu group jam session is not uncommon!
Across town, also on Wednesday night, check out the Island Merchant in Hyannis for an evening hosted by the mellifluous Molly Parmenter. Usually found behind the bar at the Merchant or on stage for her own acoustic shows, Molly has created a welcoming venue where newer musicians can get some practice and seasoned one can play with new material. (Read more of our praise for Molly.)
Head further down Cape for The Feed Your Love Open Mic held on the third Wednesday of each month at Wellfleet’s beautiful Preservation Hall. Cruise all the way to P-town for Monday nights at the Mews Restaurant and Café. Both evenings boast an impressive and eclectic array of talent. Heading back to the mid-Cape, don’t miss Monday nights at everyone’s favorite Irish pub, O’Sheas Olde Inne in Dennis.
New to the Hyannis open mic scene: Tuesday nights at The Compound Bar and Grill with one of our favorites, Jordan Renzi and Sundays evenings at 586 Bistro and Bar for Open Mic and Jam Night with Funktapuss
Musicians, check with the venues for sign up details and start times. Listeners, put these nights in your rotation and show your #lovelistenlocal support!
