Local Love For Mom

Forgot about Mother’s Day? Totally unsure what to get your wife, mom, baby mama or other favorite mother figure? Bring some local focus to your choices and she will be thrilled.

Rather than pick up sweet treats at the grocery store, how about bringing the woman who gives you unconditional comfort something made with local love? Beautiful baked goods or homemade chocolates from Osterville’s Amie Bakery, Centerville’s Cape Cod Chocolatier, Dennis’ Underground Bakery or Truro’s Chequessett Chocolate will be a perfectly satisfying taste. It may be cliché, but beautifully arranged flowers are an appreciated gesture. Find them at Windfall Market in Falmouth, Verde in Mashpee Commons or Vintage Flowers in Osterville.

When asked, mothers often say the thing they want most is time – sometimes with their children or grandchildren, sometimes peace and quiet. To give mom a break, send her for a relaxing service with Therapeutic Bodywork in Cotuit, Solstice Day Spa or Salon 700 in Hyannis, or Supple Apothecary in Orleans. Or, treat her to a package of yoga classes at one of the many studios from Sandwich to Provincetown – and while she’s at class have a trusted cleaning service like Cleangreen come by to make her home beautiful (buy a gift certificate now and they will add some flowers to really make you look good!).

Look to Design Works in Yarmouth Port, The Little Beach Gallery in Hyannis, or The Brewster Tackle Co. for unique jewelry and gifts – the staff will make sure you choose something truly special. Overdue for a pricier bauble or maybe a push present for soon-to-be moms? Steven Gallant Jewelers in Orleans is a great choice – deliver it to her over breakfast at Hangar B for maximum points. Brunch at the Old Yarmouth Inn is a festive affair; at Quick’s Hole in Woods Hole it means a sparkling waterfront view.

Low-key moms will love dinner at O’Shea’s Olde Inne in West Dennis followed by a special performance Kate + Bill (local favorites Kathleen Healy and her husband Bill Kwaak). Or, enjoy a date night at Harvest Gallery Wine Bar featuring fresh, seasonal food, excellent drinks and the captivating voice of Cerise Bynoe with the Charlie Jamison Trio.
