Street artist Kate DeCiccio will be the Artist in Residence at the Guyer Barn June 14-29 participating in Hyannis’ first Street Art Project. Kate will be painting a mural (with the help of the community) of four notable locals, capturing the true essence of the beloved urban neighborhood by the sea.
Kate specializes in working with communities to develop authentic local narratives and transform ideas into beautiful street art. She describes her work as ‘inspired by textiles, nature and architecture with a sense of playfulness.’ Kate approaches portraiture with a dedication to painting people with an attention to how they see themselves or their place in the world.
How can you get involved? Nominate a local to be painted who you think captures the essence of Hyannis; attend the community meeting; or learn about Kate’s process at her June 25 Artist Talk. You can also sign-up here (12 spots available, ages 15+) for a 2-day workshop (June 27 + 28, 9:30-12:30pm, $100) where attendees will learn how to make stencils, create patterns and use spray paint.
