Hyannis Open Streets (+ LoveLocal Fest!)

Hyannis is definitely the place to be on Sunday, September 25! Yes, it is the not-to-be-missed LoveLocal Fest {Locals’ Edition}, but it is also the first of hopefully many Hyannis Open Streets events where Main Street will be closed from Ocean Street to Sea Street to vehicle traffic and all other forms of movement – walking, biking, roller skating and little-red-wagon-pulling – will be encouraged, on the sidewalks as well as right in the middle of the street from 12pm-5pm!

Hosted by the Greater Hyannis Civic Association (GHCA), along with the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District and the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, the concept was introduced to the group by Red Fish Blue Fish owner Jane Walsh who had read about similar events happening across the country, and more recently on Newbury Street in Boston. The idea is to cultivate community spirit, encourage a healthy and safe lifestyle, and for people to enjoy what Main Streets have to offer without having to worry about traffic.

So, before or after you spend time browsing the vendors, listening to local bands, hula hooping, playing games, and hanging out in the beer garden at LoveLocal Fest, follow the red bricked Walkway to the Sea that runs from Aselton Park through the Hyannis Village Green to the Open Streets event where there will be entertainment along the street, yoga classes, activities by the YMCA, artists’ demonstrations, and as always shopping and dining at the wide variety of locally owned businesses along the street.
