February school vacation is on the horizon, and although it likely excites the kiddies to no end, it can often times be challenging for parents (who are not going away to warmer climates) to find things to keep their young ones busy. We’ve found some cool and unique activities happening across the Cape from February 13-21 specifically designed to do just that.
Modern Vintage’s February Vacation Kids DIY Camp is perfect for the creative kid who wants to learn hand-sewing, embellishing, introduction to machine-sewing, furniture and hand painting, and stenciling. The camp that is designed for children between 10 and 12 will be working on painting a bench and making a coordinating pillow, along with a hand painted sign, hand-sewn headband or belt and a pillow case shirt.
Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is offering programming all week long from birdwatching, to an afternoon of environmental inspired music, and to spending time with therapy dogs.
As part of Cape Cod National Seashore’s Winter Film Festival, they will show March of the Penguins on February 21 at 1:30pm at the Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham, which features stunning footage of emperor penguins living in one of the harshest environments on the planet, Antarctic ice. Light refreshments are available a half-hour before each show.
The Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich offers programming for various age groups from 4 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 12. Classes offered include indoor and outdoor time, as well as educational and pure fun. They are also offering fun for the whole family with their Candy Making Class on Saturday, February 21 at 1:30pm where families will work together to create birds’ nests using butterscotch morsels and Chow Mein noodles.
Check out the daily programming at Cape Cod Children’s Museum from 10am to 3pm including science wonders, singing and special projects.
