One of our favorite locales and home of our beloved summer LoveLocal Fests is getting a makeover. We are so excited about the “Dress Up Downtown” Campaign led by the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District (BID). Working with the civic crowdfunding platform Patronicity and the Commonwealth Places initiative, the campaign aims to spruce up downtown Hyannis by installing year-round tree lights and public art through wall murals, crosswalk art and painted electrical boxes.
You can help the BID meet its $15,000 goal by January 12 by donating today – if we meet the goal, the MassDevelopment’s Commonwealth Places program will match the funds for a total of $30,000! This will allow nearly twenty trees along Main Street to be lit with festive year-round white lights; half of dozen are already sprinkled throughout the street. One of our favorite aspects of the campaign is that you can honor a loved one through your donation by dedicating an illuminated tree to them with a commemorative plaque and dedication celebration.
In addition to “lighting up downtown,” the initiative would add incredible artwork to the street. The plan includes two large street murals as well as six electrical boxes to be painted by local artists. There is also an effort to add paint and design elements to the crosswalks throughout the street. The BID hopes to turn this into a community art project that could come to life while the street is closed during the April Hyannis Open Streets event.
