While the salt is practically in our veins and nautical themes abound just about everywhere you go on Cape Cod, our rich maritime history is somewhat underappreciated (even among those of us who live here).
Located on South Street in Hyannis Harbor, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum does an exceptional job making that history relevant for today’s public by presenting it in a contemporary, fun way. Currently, the museum is displaying exhibits highlighting maritime fine arts, boatbuilding, and Cape Cod’s largest scrimshaw collection.
Tour the harbor on an historic Catboat, the Sarah, or visit the Cook Boat Shop where you can learn skills like celestial navigation, how to build a skiff and knot tying in one of their workshops.
Sign up for the CCMM email or follow on social media to stay in the know about the many fun events hosted at the museum – from paddleboard shaping workshops to cocktail parties to children’s activities. Open daily 10am–4pm; 12-4pm Sunday.
