Summertime on the Cape is like nothing else. It’s magical and chaotic all at the same time. Our precious sandbar fills to the brim (and then some) with visitors getting their surf and sand fix. As locals, we try to balance taking advantage of our short season with juggling guests, jobs (often multiple) and our own time in the summer sun.
Whether you call it home or are just touching down for a few days, there’s just something so special about live music on a hot summer Cape Cod night! During the peak season, Cape Cod sees a steady increase in performances, with the weather allowing for more outdoor festivals and concerts. Many are led by our impressive group of loyal local musicians (who entertain us all year long), together with an influx of exciting national acts.
For a totally unique summer show experience, plan on the MC Yogi and DJ Drez concert duringLove Yoga Fest. On Saturday, August 16 at Hyannis’ Aselton Park, these two internationally renowned performers will electrify the enthusiastic crowd with their powerful presence and hip-hop and reggae-rooted mantras, beats and meditations (think the Beastie Boys on Buddhism). The show, open to the public as well as festival goers, is part of the weekend-long inaugural yoga event which brings more than 40 workshops and 35 teachers to the Hyannis Harborfront. Before the show, check out the community marketplace featuring over 50 vendors. Local opener DJ Sinnetti will get things started at 7:30pm; MC Yogi and DJ Drez go on at 8pm. Tickets for the show are $35 and can be purchased at the event or online (along with yoga fest passes for the full weekend, a day, or a Bliss pass that includes the show and two yoga classes).
Opportunities for summer serenades continue throughout the month. There’s no doubt that theWellfleet Beachcomber, the Cape Cod Melody Tent and the Payomet Performing Arts Center are some of the best seasonal music venues around. In August, we can’t wait for Martin Sexton,Gregg Allman and Ben Taylor to name a few! Plus, nearly every town offers a free summer concert series at a park or the village green.
