We are all about sharing great events, telling you the scoop about cool local businesses and giving you a different perspective on living it up on Cape Cod. But sometimes we need to infuse a more subdued note into our information sharing, especially when October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and according to the Silent Spring Institute Cape Cod has a much higher breast cancer incident rate than the rest of Massachusetts. But in true Cape Codder style of generosity and compassion the fitness community is stepping up (pun intended!) to raise money for the cause.
Wellbeloved Wellness is hosting a Barre for Boobies fundraising class on Saturday, October 15 from 9:30-11:30am, where you can take a barre class, buy a raffle ticket to win a basket of local goodies and purchase barre gear. All of proceeds from this event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Later on that same day at 1:30pm Falmouth’s 241 Fitness will host its 6th Annual Party in Pink Zumbathon at the Gus Canty Community Center. The Zumbathon will consist of Zumba instructors from all over Cape Cod volunteering their time leading a two-hour Zumba class.
More of a low impact exerciser? Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is hosting a 2-4 mile walk to celebrate survivorship around Barnstable Village to help raise money for research, education, and services by the American Cancer Society.
So, whether you or someone you know has been faced with this horrible disease, you can try and help keep yourself healthy while joining the fight.
