Beat The Winter Blues

We’ve had some snow… and it’s not done yet! What’s one to do here on our beloved sandbar during a snowpocalypse? So much! Start by checking out the “Local Lowdown” we post every Friday afternoon on LoveLiveLocal’s Facebook page highlighting our top picks for the weekend.  Here are even more local tips on how to beat the winter blues:

Keep Moving: With five snow days already in the books for 2015, to say we’re going stir crazy is an understatement.  If the weather permits, get out of the house and be active! Hit the gym. Try Fitness 500, which provides lots of classes and a wonderful facility or Koko Fit Club, offering 24-hour workout flexibility. Yoga studios Cape-wide offer year round classes for all levels; try Dharma ConnectionInnerglow Cape CodCenterville Yoga and WellnessPower Yoga of Cape Cod or Orleans Yoga and Pilates to name a few.

Stay Warm: Literally staying warm seems to be one of the best cures for the winter blues and nothing warms you up like a good cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Drink local with a cup of coffee from Eastham’s Beanstock Coffee  or Mashpee’s Cape Cod Coffee Roasters. Or tour the Cape’s coffee shops including Coffee Obsession in Woods Hole, The Coffee Roost in Sandwich, Nirvana Coffee Company in Barnstable Village and JoMamas in Orleans.

Mix It Up: Get out of your comfort zone and try something totally new. The Cape has an incredible array of workshops and classes offered year round. Try the Shape Your Own Stand-Up Paddleboard class with board-shaper Shawn Vecchione at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum or the Sailor Valentine Workshop at Pastiche of Cape Cod…both this weekend.

Soak Up the Sun: If it’s shining, go explore! Scope out the changing coastline on the National Seashore, and if the ground permits take part in one of our favorite hikes to Jeremy Point or discover new paths and adventures carved out in the snowy banks. The Cape looks different and beautiful covered in snow; enjoy the perspective while it lasts.

Treat Yourself: Pamper yourself at one of the Cape’s many relaxing spas. Getting a massage or splurging on a mani/pedi is a surefire way to beat the cold. Try Therapeutic BodyworkBeach Plum SpaSolstice Day Spa (check out their Valentine’s Day Specials), Salon 700 & Day Spa or Chatham Bars Inn.

Dream of SummerEscape the Cape! Or at least pretend to as you peruse summer vessels at the 9th Annual Boatbuilder’s Show at the Resort and Conference Center this weekend. Or get lost in the stories at the Carousel of Light Classic Movie Series at the Falmouth Cinema Pub.

Indulge: Eat and drink some local goodness! Enjoy homegrown sweets at Chequessett Chocolate (re-opening party tonight!) Wash them down with local wine or rum from Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod or seasonal brews from Cape Cod Beer (they are releasing their Bitter End Imperial IPA with a party tomorrow)!
